Although the restoration and rediscovery of the medieval wall paintings at St Mary’s has been a remarkable story of dedication and hard work - there is always more to do - and we know that there is much more to discover about this fabulous building…
The church now welcomes many hundreds of visitors from all parts of the world each and every year. This has only been made possible by the establishment of a busy and thriving local support group - known as The Friends of St Mary’s. The Friends of St Mary’s also continue to work hard to maintain the building and raise funds for the on-going restoration work.
What is particularly exciting about St Mary’s is that, although the church contains one of the most complete schemes of 11th century, or perhaps earlier, wall paintings in England, we also know that there is far more yet to be uncovered. At the present time The Friends of St Mary’s are raising funds to complete the uncovering of the medieval paintings on the south wall - which are bound to contain even more surprises.
Please help to support St Mary’s and our on-going restoration of this uniquely important building.
